Walking for a Cause: Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support
At DCC, we often talk about the importance of teamwork, dedication and going the extra mile. Last weekend, our Technical Director, Anthony Taylor-Beal, quite literally did just that.
Swapping engineering drawings and project meetings for walking boots and a determined mindset, Anthony spent his Saturday taking on a fundraising challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that provides vital support to people living with cancer and the families standing beside them.

Cancer touches the lives of so many of us. Whether through our own experiences or those of family members, friends or colleagues, many people understand just how invaluable organisations like Macmillan can be. From offering emotional support and practical advice to helping people navigate treatment, financial concerns and the uncertainties that often come with a diagnosis, Macmillan’s teams are there when they are needed most.
Inspired by the difference the charity makes every day, Anthony decided to step away from his usual role and take on a challenge that pushed him outside of his comfort zone. It wasn’t without its moments of doubt. There were undoubtedly sore feet, the threat of blisters, and perhaps the occasional question of, “Why did I sign up for this?” But with determination and the knowledge that every step could help someone facing cancer, he kept going.
What makes challenges like this so meaningful is that they remind us of the power of community. Behind every donation is a message of encouragement, a shared memory of a loved one, or a desire to help ensure that no one faces cancer alone. It is often these collective acts of kindness, however big or small, that enable charities such as Macmillan to continue delivering life-changing services. Whether it’s a nurse offering reassurance during a difficult appointment or an adviser helping families understand the support available to them, these moments can have a lasting impact.
Fundraising challenges aren’t simply about reaching the finish line. They are about raising awareness, starting conversations and showing solidarity with those going through some of life’s toughest experiences. Every pound raised helps Macmillan continue to provide expert guidance, compassionate support and practical assistance to those who need it most.
At DCC, we believe that businesses have an important role to play beyond the projects we deliver and the services we provide. Supporting the causes that matter to our people helps strengthen our connection to the communities around us and reflects the values we hold as a team. Anthony’s efforts are a wonderful example of how individuals can use their time and energy to make a positive difference.

We couldn’t be prouder of Anthony for dedicating his time and energy to such an important cause. His commitment reflects the values we strive to uphold at DCC, supporting one another, giving back to our communities and recognising that even small actions can make a meaningful difference.

From all of us at DCC, congratulations and thank you, Anthony. Your efforts are an inspiration, and we’re incredibly proud to have you leading by example.
